What it is
AWS – FetCrusher is a Max for Live audio effect: FET-style distortion that goes from subtle saturation to proper crush.

Why it matters
Most distortion is either “nothing” or “wrecked.” FetCrusher stays musical in the middle, and deliberate when pushed.

How to use it

  1. Add it to a track or bus
  2. Raise Input until it wakes up
  3. Add Drive for intensity
  4. Shape with Tone (darker = smoother, brighter = more bite)
  5. Set Output to level-match for honest A/B

Controls

  • Input — hit the circuit
  • Drive — crush amount
  • Tone — tilt shaping
  • Output — level match

Starting points

  • Subtle Thickener: Input slight / Drive low / Tone slightly dark / Output match
  • Drum Edge: Input moderate / Drive medium / Tone neutral / Output match
  • Crush (Parallel): Input high / Drive high / Tone to taste / blend in

Where it shines
Drums (edge), bass (audibility), synths (presence), buses (density).

I want this!
Q: Is this only for heavy distortion?
Q: Is this only for heavy distortion?
Q: Where should I place it in the chain?
Common: before compression if you want the compressor to grab the harmonics, or after if you want distortion on an already-controlled signal. On buses, keep it conservative.
Q: How do I avoid harshness?
Use Tone to darken, back off Drive, and don’t confuse “louder” with “better.” Output level-match.
Q: Is it good on the mix bus?
Try it and see :)
